‘Being Brilliant’ Part 3 – Change

Hi everyone! Today, I’m back with my ‘Being Brilliant’ series. I’m going to be talking about change. (Quick self promotion: If you’d like to see the last post I did in this series, click here!) Let’s begin.

Change is hard. Hard to follow through with, hard to commit to, hard to accept.

And changing as a person is even harder. Looking differently at life, taking on a new mindset… it all challenges you to the maximum.

So you’re probably wondering why you should change as a person, if it’s so hard. After all, you should never change to please someone else, right?

Well, that’s right. You should never change to please someone else. You should change to please yourself.

If you’re not happy with how you’re behaving, or thinking, then it’s okay to change. In fact, it’s encouraged. It shows you are developing as a person, and blossoming out to your full potential.

So how do you change?

The truth is, there’s no simple answer.

You can alter your habits, and keep forcing yourself to do them until they become natural. For example, if you want to change the fact that you always turn down party invites, start making yourself say yes. And soon you’ll be saying yes to everything.

Another option is to think about the things that are stopping you from being brilliant, and remove them completely from your life. Let’s say you have a “friend” who is negatively influencing you. Don’t hang around with them any longer. Say goodbye to the people who just want to drag you down. They’re not worth your time.

All in all, change is good, if you can stick to it. The results are off the chart amazing.

And the other great thing is that you are now a small step closer to becoming your best self. By changing a single thing at a time, rather than attempting some massive, dramatic, over-the-top makeover, you’re acquiring the skills you’ll need later on in life, which include (but are not limited to): patience, acceptance, knowledge, and most importantly, experience of what you think is right or wrong. This will influence your decisions and values as you grow up.

There’s no need to be ashamed of your former self. You made a mistake, and that’s alright. You’ve learnt from it. You’ve changed.

I want to know: have you guys ever changed yourselves? Have you adjusted your way of viewing the world? If so, how did it go? Feel free to let me know in the comments.

Thank you all for reading, see you in my next post.

  1. This was a very thoughtful post! It’s interesting how much we can change without even noticing, but when we want to change it seems to take forever! I used to change how I acted around my best friend because she was hanging around people who didn’t like me, so I started to act differently so I could still spend time around my friend. Eventually I realised I can’t change myself for other people, so I simply stopped being around them. I still hang out with said friend, but I’ve found other people who can accept me for the nerdy, shy girl I am.

    Again, great post!

  2. Thank you! Yes, it’s really interesting to see how other people change without consciously thinking about it. I’ve done the same as you, there were a group of girls a few years ago who were my BFFs, and suddenly they all started avoiding me. I tried to change to fit in with them, but in the end it just wasn’t worth it, it was becoming a hassle and I knew that wasn’t a true friendship. So I made some great new friends instead! 😀 It’s great you also found your friendship circle, good friends are really important ❤
    Thanks once more! xx

  3. This was so beautiful, inspiring, and thought-provoking!! Well done ☺️ As we mature and grow older, we inadvertently make life changes as we see the need or feel like doing things differently. Back in the fall, I really felt like changing things up in my room, which doesn’t sound like much, but it was the act that ultimately shifted my thinking to more positivity and looking ahead to the future, not focusing on the past. I got rid of the different sad-themed decor I’d been holding onto for years and bought brighter decorations with cheery colors, and I moved the furniture around so that I’d have more room to walk in there (I have a tiny room lol). More recently (this past week specifically), I could suddenly see that blogging was taking too much from my life, and I was running out of inspiration to post, and I knew I needed a break. Some time to get re-inspired, and to make little changes here and there in my day-to-day life. 😊 Thank you so much for sharing!

  4. Wow, thank you so much! ❤
Yes, we change when we want to. The example with your room is really interesting; it's funny how something so small could develop your thinking like that! (Lol, I have a tiny room too, and I really need to update it 😀 ) That's great you've started looking to the future.
I think you're right – it's definitely important to take a little break here and there. So when you come back you'll be refreshed and will be like a well-oiled machine 😀
You're very welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed, thank you for your awesome feedback xx 😀
